Vineyard Grant James winery Ramona— The must visit winery near San Diego

Vineyard Grant James in Ramona should be at the top of your “must visit” list. Not only is it conveniently located right next to San Diego, but it also boasts amazing wine, views, and hospitality.

And we aren’t the only ones who think Grant James Winery is a must. In fact, it was recently ranked second on the “Top Vineyard Around the U.S.” list by Travel & Leisure Magazine. This is not an easy accomplishment by any means. It was hard earned and well deserved! We couldn’t be prouder to call this boutique winery a Priority Wine Pass partner.

Ramona, San Diego’s Wine Region Nextdoor

Grant James Winery Ramona

If you are unfamiliar with Ramona wines, you wouldn’t be the first. Even though it’s near San Diego (about 45 minutes by car), it’s not a hot, trendy wine trail. And it doesn’t draw in crowds like Healdsburg, Paso, Santa Barbara, or it’s (better known) neighbor Temecula.

Ramona started as a stagecoach stop during the California Gold Rush and bloomed into a city it is today. Fun Fact: In the 60’s Ramona became known for the “Salt Mine”. This is the boxing training camp that produced George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. There are many reasons to add Ramona to your list of travels, but here at Priority Wine Pass our favorite is for Vineyard Grant James.

History of Vineyard Grant James Winery Ramona

Vineyard Grant James gets its name from the son of founder Susanne Sapier. He earned this though long hours and relentless perseverance of planting, building, and bringing Susanne’s vision to life. Susanne purchased this petite, 9 acre property in 2009. With the help of her direct, DEDICATED family they had this lot planted by hand by that winter. 2011 proved to be that special year. This is when she started producing her magnificent, reds, whites and dessert wines. Their estate fruit and the tasting room opened shortly thereafter in 2013.

Vineyard Grant James Tasting Room

The “tasting room” is anything but a room. It is the heart of the property, where luxury meets country. You can lose yourself in a glass of fine James Grant wine while admiring the views. The generous hospitality of Susanne and her team will keep you from wanting to leave. Enjoy a warm Ramona evening out on the patio or near the firepit. You can also listen to live music or relax with your favorite family member (including your dog!) Yes, they are pet friendly too!
