Bluebird Hill Cellars is a small, family-owned producer of award-winning Pinot noirs, Chardonnays, and other whites, reds, and rosé wines in the South Willamette Valley of Oregon.

Neil and Sue Shay purchased a homestead with an overgrown Christmas tree farm in 2011, and over the course of the next five years, cleared the land and planted 5,500 Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Pinot gris vines.

Aside from the spectacular views the property enjoys, the site is perfect for growing wine grapes, a warm hilltop site that enjoys gentle summer breezes with the vines firmly rooted in a silty clay-based soil layered over the remnants of an ancient seafloor. We were recently described as “A rising star along the South Willamette Wine Trail” by Winepress Northwest’s Platinum Award Judging of 2020.

Our Wines

Our wines are small-lot and handcrafted, with a commitment to make distinctive wines from estate and other exceptional lots of fruit. We use a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques with a focus on detail. Our winemaking is also committed to patience: we barrel age our Pinot noirs for 24 full months, a practice not typically practical in larger wineries mass producing great quantities of wine. We believe this practice allows the true nature of the Pinot noir grape to be expressed with exceptional mouth feel, balance, and persistence. Both our Pinot noirs and Chardonnays have received an array of awards and top scores in blind tastings at major wine competitions and wine publications. We also produce Pinot gris, White Pinot noir, Rosé, Syrah, a Syrah/Pinot Red Blend, and dessert wines.
