Many forget how close Napa Valley sits to San Francisco, but Bouchaine is a great reminder of that. Located just 45 minutes from the city, the setting feels worlds apart. What is particularly special about Bouchaine is that it backs up to the San Francisco bay. So that means two things. First, 360 views of Napa Valley and the San Francisco bay. And second slightly cooler weather than the rest of Napa Valley. This makes for an incredible growing climate particularly for their individual clones of Pinot Noir. But with over 20 award winning wines you’ll be sure to find something you love.
Bouchaine was originally planted in the 1880’s and they continue to practice sustainable farming and precision viticulture. This is also echoed through their architecture as well. Parts of their old redwood tanks from the 60s were even repurposed for the siding on their main buildings. To this day, it remains a family-owned, boutique-style winery with small productions.
Our recommendation is to come in the late afternoon. That’s because sunsets here are breathtaking.
Our Wines
If you love Chardonnay and Pinot Noir say no more. Bouchaine is situated in the cooler Carneros Valley of Napa. This region backs up to the San Francisco bay and offers the perfect micro-climate for these varietals. In terms of Pinot, they are known for bottling small production clones. These include their Swan clone, Dijon clone, St. Claire clone, and Pommard. Each bursting with their own mix of red fruit flavors and finishing with unique hints of spice. Their Chardonnay is equally remarkable offering a light fruit forward with subtle buttery finish.
But the fun doesn’t end there. They also have great Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Syrah, and Cabernet.
