Charles Usher Wines is a family owned winery offering handcrafted small-lot wines. We are located three miles from downtown Saratoga, along the Saratoga wine trail. Our winery recently released a 2008 Petite Verdot, 2010 Barbera, 2011 Barbera, 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, a 2010 semi dry white Muscat and a sweet white Muscat, and a 2011 Chardonnay.
Our Petite Verdot was awarded a gold medal at the Orange County Fair, Commercial Wine Competition. The 2010 Barbera also received a medal at the 2011 S.F. Chronicle competition. Our winery uses estate and Santa Cruz Mountain grown grapes, in addition to grapes that are grown in Napa, Sonoma, Lake County, Lodi, Placer County and the Central Coast. Charles Usher wines are aged in American and French Oak barrels.
Our mission is simple: to provide wines tailored to the tastes of our individual customers. We take great pride in our commitment to small lot, individually blended wines. Our online store is designed to provide you with a safe and secure environment to browse our wines.
Charles Usher is unique for several reasons. We offer custom blending, tailoring wines to an individual’s taste. Oak and tannin levels can be adjusted bottle by bottle. Additionally, we offer custom bottle labeling for private use, corporate events, holiday parties, weddings, as well as for single bottle occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, birth announcements, etc.
We named our winery Charles Usher, in memory of my father Charles Zemenick, who was a devoted fan of delicious red wines. As a young boy I have memories of him coming home from work and announcing to the family that we should change the family name to something easier to spell, easier to pronounce, and easier to remember. He seized upon the name Usher, like a theater usher. We never changed the family name, but my father would use Charles Usher for restaurant reservations and the like. As a tribute to the memory of my father, my wife, Kathleen and I created a winery and named it __Charles Usher”. Over the years, my father’s passion for delicious red wine had created the same passion in me. I have become a devout and passionate wine maker. Without his influence there would be no winery. Cheers to you, Dad!
