The Madrigal’s value the long relationship with the land and the people of Napa. Today, Chris Madrigal, the founder’s grandson, is vintner of Madrigal Family Winery. Chris’ grandparents left Mexico and arrived in the Napa Valley in the late 1930’s. They began farming apples, grapes, pears, and walnuts. They may have been the first Mexican family in the upper valley. Chris’ father, Jess, started the family’s vineyard management business. Today, that company manages over 800 acres. Chris attributes the family’s success to a strong work ethic. Chris is passionate about winemaking. The family history inspired him to establish Madrigal Family Winery. The winery is on 40 acres of estate vineyards. The Madrigal winery produces 6,000 cases of wine a year. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Gewurztraminer, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc make up the Madrigal wines. There are occasional small lots of single vineyard and estate wines.
