MCEVOY RANCH HISTORY
Every great story has a beginning, and ours starts with Nan McEvoy and her search for a __wonderful place in the country”. On her quest for a place where her grandchildren could fully experience the beauty of Northern California, she fell in love with a sprawling 550 acres in Petaluma, previously a dairy farm and strictly zoned for agriculture.
Inspired by her love of Tuscan olive oil and The Feast of the Olive by Maggie Klein (a book given to her by her son, Nion), she met with one of Italy’s foremost experts on the subject, Maurizio Castelli. Three days later he was on the ranch (or so the story goes__). Despite the obvious challenges involved in producing olive oil in Marin County, and against the advice of many, Nan imported 1000 seedlings from Tuscany. Her renegade decision-making has been a boon and a benefit to all those who have discovered McEvoy Ranch and its abundance.
Marin County, California
Talk of winemaking began around the table during lunches in our country kitchen – to our good fortune, the rolling hills of the ranch have proved as welcoming to grapes as they are to olives.

McEvoy Ranch: Our Wine
Our unique vineyard location in west Marin County offers a distinct climate and varied soil types that are more conducive to cultivating our estate Pinot noir, Syrah, Montepulciano, Grenache, Viognier, Alicante Bouschet and Refosco. In keeping with our Tuscan heritage and commitment to sustainability we interplanted many of our Mediterranean varieties with our olive trees, extending the grape ripening season and maximizing the land. The Marin hills enjoy a more temperate climate than other California growing regions, such as Sonoma and Napa counties.
Sunshine and variable fog contribute to the distinct profile of our Pinot noir grapes. You can read about the seasonal care of our vines
