Urban Legend Cellars

The Bay Area’s Most Scenic Winery, that’s Urban Legend. Owners Steve & Marilee Shaffer are passionate about great (and interesting) food wines. Given their backgrounds in engineering and biotech, you’d expect meticulous care in what they do; they do pride ourselves in their fine craftsmanship and let science drive their technique.

Visit the winery, tasting room, and patio, located in Alameda’s Spirits Alley, an eclectic cluster of artisan wineries, distilleries, and breweries on the former Alameda Naval Air Station with stunning views of San Francisco and the bay. Enjoy a tasting in our tasting room or outdoors under the pavilion or take one of our City View Pergolas for glasses, trios or bottles. Reservations are strongly recommended but walk-in’s welcome.

Our Wines

Founded by a former biologist and engineer couple, they craft food-friendly, limited-production wines from grapes sourced across California regions like Lodi and Sonoma, specializing in distinctive Italian and Iberian grape varieties.
