Welcome to Viszlay Vineyards, Viszlay Vineyards Wine from Sonoma County California As a family owned, boutique winery located in the Russian River Valley, we specialize in making small lot, estate wines from our 10 acre vineyard. Our winery is nestled amongst the 12 varietals we grow, including the only Prosecco grapes in Sonoma County. We practice sustainable farming methods and embrace the traditional wine making styles that produce soft, elegant and balanced wines. The art and science of wine making come together through our passion, which we hope you’ll enjoy in each bottle. 2012 was an exceptional year for most of us growing grapes in Sonoma County. We had the highest yield in years, and some of the highest quality fruit to accompany it. We will keep the best of the wines from that year and will bottle approximately 1200 cases this year. Our wines are available exclusively through the winery and our wine club. Viszlay Vineyards Sonoma County California Situated on a gentle slope, our vineyard was planted in 1997 and drains to a rippling creek leading to the Russian River. The soil has several distinct veins of sandy loam, red dirt and a small stretch of limestone. These, along with a slightly higher elevation than the valley, create a unique micro-climate for growing terrific fruit. We have two Chardonnay varietals, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouschet and the only domestically grown Prosecco in Sonoma County! These grapes have produced award winning wines for years. Our thirteen hundred square foot winery building sits at the top of the slope and easily accommodates 150 barrels for aging. It has 14 foot high ceilings, is equipped with 5 open topped fermenting tanks, 6 enclosed tanks ranging from 270 to 3,000 gallon capacity, all of which are jacketed and cooled. In addition to using tanks, we occasionally use Macro bins for fermenting smaller lots of each varietal. The large crush pad overlooks the vineyard and neighboring hillside. As owner and winemaker, I live on-site and do all the wine making along with the day to day operations at the winery. My son and partner Tony, oversees finance and marketing for the company.
